When oil is burned, exhaust gas is generated that includes carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbon (HC), and the like. Also, when coal is burned, an exhaust gas is generated that includes carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx), hydrocarbon (HC), and the like. Further, when natural gas is burned, an exhaust gas is generated that includes carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), nitrogen oxide (NOx), sulfur oxide (SOx), hydrocarbon (HC), and the like.
The exhaust gas includes hazardous materials such as SOx, NOx, and the like, which are classified into two categories based on their health impact level (HIL). The HIL of SOx is 1 to 5, and the HIL of NOx is 0 to 1. That is, the HIL of NOx is 1 to 5, and the HIL of SOx is 1 to 5. The exhaust gas is purified by an SCR (selective catalytic reduction) method that uses a catalytic converter that reduces these hazardous materials into harmless substances.
Specifically, in the SCR method, a reducing agent is injected into an exhaust gas, and the injected reducing agent reacts with NOx or SOx to reduce the same into harmless substances through a catalytic reaction. This is called as a selective catalytic reduction reaction. In order to perform the selective catalytic reduction reaction, a reducing agent, such as ammonia, urea, or the like, is injected into an exhaust gas. In the selective catalytic reduction reaction, three-way catalyst is used in an exhaust gas purification system that purifies NOx and SOx of the exhaust gas.
The selective catalytic reduction method requires a reducing agent to react with NOx and SOx. Therefore, a large amount of the reducing agent is required to reduce NOx and SOx into harmless substances. However, for a conventional engine vehicle, the exhaust gas purification system may not ac619d1d87
